It’s no secret that I am generally opposed to re-releases, but I am pretty shameless about giving exceptions to Ellie Goulding. The British songstress recently announced plans to release a “repackaged” version of her sophomore album. The appropriately titled Halcyon Days is set for an August 23 release.
Co-written by Ryan Tedder and produced by Greg Kurstin, “Burn” is the album’s lead single. The inspirational song was originally intended for Leona Lewis, but it sounds like it was made specifically for Goulding. The scorching single showcases Goulding’s alien-like vocals, which gives a futuristic feel to what is generally an unmemorable production. This isn’t as sparkling as some of Goulding’s work in Halcyon, but her delivery definitely takes it to the next level.
I’m also loving the video—it’s understated but captures the message of the song well.
More info about Halcyon Days, the re-release of Goulding’s sophomore album, from the pop star’s website:
Ellie’s new single, ‘Burn’, is one of seven new tracks to be lifted from ‘Halcyon Days’, a repackaged edition of the spectacular second album ‘Halycon’.
Released on August 26th, ‘Halcyon Days’ will include the hit singles ‘Anything Could Happen’, ‘Explosions’ and the Calvin Harris track ‘I Need Your Love’ featuring Ellie.
‘Halcyon Days’ also features collaborations with Madeon, DJ Fresh, BURNS and Nate Ruess from Fun.
With “I Need Your Love” doing well in the charts and Goulding releasing some amazing covers and original songs lately, I think Halcyon Days has the potential to really sell well. Are you as excited as I am for this re-release?
