“Dark Side” is one of the best tracks from Kelly Clarkson’s new album Stronger. The instrumentation in the song’s first few seconds give it a dreamy feel to it. The song’s layered production also works well with Kelly’s vulnerable vocals.
It’s a shame that the video isn’t very interesting. Although the video has a promising premise, it tries to tell too many stories —unemployment, bullying, self-esteem, etc. — and in the end, it ends up not having any narrative at all. “Dark Side” tries to achieve what Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” did a decade ago, but the vague story lines fail to make a genuine emotional impact.
As for Kelly, she looks great, especially in that orange top.
