Nominations for the 55th annual GRAMMY awards were announced tonight, and indie acts dominated the lists.
Critical fave Mumford & Sons and breakout artists Frank Ocean and Fun. lead the pack together with Kanye West, Jay-Z, and The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach with six nominations.
Pop music updates – October 22, 2012
- Seattle band Barcelona will be playing at the Commodore Ballroom on November 5th. The band will tour in support of their latest release Not Quite Yours.
- Speaking of concerts, Maroon 5 is also coming to Vancouver on March 9, 2013. The Overexposed band will be joined by Neon Trees and Owl City. Tickets are available for purchase beginning Saturday, October 27th at LiveNation.com. (via Vancity Buzz)
- Even more concert news! Ellie Goulding will hit the road this winter for a four week North American tour in support of Halcyon. Goulding will stop by the Commodore Ballroom on February 5, 2013. I’ll be there (provided I get tickets)!
I am NEVER opposed to a shirtless Adam Levine, but I just can’t get into the “One More Night” video.
The guys of Maroon 5 weren’t kidding when they said that their next album Overexposed will be their most commercial record yet.
Maroon 5 is pretty upfront about the fact that Overexposed is the most pop album they have recorded.
Not that there’s anything wrong with going really mainstream. Their collaboration with Christina Aguilera last year, “Moves Live Jagger”, was annoyingly catchy and turned out to be a huge hit. ‘Jagger’ single-handedly placed Maroon 5 back on the charts.
This time, the band recruits rapper Wiz Khalifa for “Payphone”.
Let me start off by saying that I’m out of the loop with this whole Hunger Games phenomenon. As of today, I still haven’t seen the movie or read any of the books. I have a vague idea of what the movie is all about, but for the most part, I don’t count myself a fan.
By accident though, I heard “Safe and Sound”, Taylor Swift‘s collaboration with The Civil Wars and the soundtrack’s official first single. Although I like Taylor Swift, I was surprised by how much I liked “Safe and Sound”. The song piqued my interest and I downloaded the album.
